Earlier this month, Keith and I had the unexpected pleasure of seeing Ivan Amodei’s “Secrets and Illusions” at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara. Friends had tickets they couldn’t use and passed them on. Thanks, Steve and Virginia! A surprising gift at the beginning of the gift-giving season.
We arrived just as the doors opened; the lines of people started moving. And, upon reaching the entrance, my ticket torn, a woman said, “Please put your wish into the box.” I didn’t follow thru with it; mostly I felt the need to find my seat. I had just come from the opening at the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts so I was dressed in my Time Traveler Vest, fingerless gloves, necklace, and earrings. Anxious and ready for theater, but with no idea what to expect. Keith overheard the woman next to us, whispering about my gloves. Of course, I tried one on her and gave her a card. “Authentic Metal Lace” for any occasion and situation.
Curtains rise, lights dim and we hear the music of a violin. Enters Ivan Amodei, winner of the Penn & Teller FOOL US award. The female violinist is a musical counterpoint to the act throughout the evening. I’m not going to give you a blow by blow account of his act. It would serve you better to see it one day. But, I loved how he engaged the audience. Various audience members appeared on stage to assist, all unexpected to them. He even had us standing thru parts of it to aid him. And, when it was all over, I realized, a complete escape had taken place. My thoughts focused only on, “What will happen next?”
And, why did I write about this you’re wondering about now? Remember the wish, remember the wish at the entrance, the wish I didn’t
write down. A young woman who did write her wish down was called on stage. Here’s the wish: “World peace and a pair of Gucci sneakers.” I love this! World peace – but let’s not forget those Gucci sneakers I want too. So in closing, may PEACE fill you to the brim thru the holiday season. And, may you find your personal wishes come true as well!
I’ll be at Human Arts on Saturday, December 1st from 2PM-8PM to assist with making wishes come true. Or, just to say “Hello” or give a hug. And, if you miss me then, call or email with any requests. Many items are available on my store as well. In fact, we just decided to offer a holiday sale including a few one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewelry pieces at 30% off in our website store. So stay tuned and keep checking the store, I may be able to make a few more items before the holiday season ends.
