Elaine was part of a panel of three metal artists who talked about their craft in a presentation titled “Women’s Work” at the Craft in America Center in Los Angeles. A reception at Freehand Gallery followed and featured an exhibit of the artists’ work. Elaine joined blacksmith Heather McLarty (steelcrazy.biz) and metalsmith Chloe Dark (chloedarke.com). Both are wonderful artists and you can see examples of their work on their websites. A Huffington Post article featured Heather for the beautiful gate she created for Occidental College in L.A. An episode of The PBS series “Craft in America” (yes, created and produced by Carol Sauvion, the owner of Freehand Gallery), featured Chloe.
It was a wonderful event with a well-informed audience to keep the artists on their toes. I can’t recommend Freehand and Craft in America highly enough, for the wonderful work that they do in promoting craft and supporting the artists that create it.
